Dear City of Compton,
Recently the Compton Fire Dept threw a “party” for new fire engines that we received.. Yes we are glad the city of Compton has purchased new equipment to better serve the residents. Nevertheless the condition of the humans that actually work here is being ignored. The entire city of Compton knew about the ceremony even before the actual firefighters did
Our fire dept has never put in an effort to get funding to feed your firefighters, living people, after we have large scale fire incidents. Either the city of compton residents have personnally gave us food or we have to come out our own pockets to feed ourselves. I have repeatedly asked for this at shift meetings, including begging for a rehabilitation policy to be implemented to make sure fire personnel are cared for after fires.
This has repeatedly fell on death ears. Our fire administration does notcare if we are properly cared for after these fires or anything. I myself have been going to the city council for years complaining, literally begging them, to check in and report on the well being of our fire personnel. This has fallen on death ears many times.
What I am saying is time and time again, Our dept and city officials have stood firm on not caring about the firefighters need, physical, emotional and psychological well being but yet for a piece of equipment they have rolled out the red carpet. Yet people are asking WHY LOCAL 2216 FIREFIGHTERS did not show up off duty to kiss an engine. Damn the fact that the Compton Firefighters were the ONLY ONES DURING COVID doing birthday drives by for residents, damn the fact that we are present at every city event, damn the fact that we work in hostile work environment, and damn the fact that our work and living conditions is below par. We suck because we didn’t show up to a engine ceremony.
I’m literally mind blown that again, people are angry, that the Compton firefighters literally exist. Yall hate us so much and don’t even know it. There is no moral at this department, nobody is happy, all of our dreams jobs we worked so hard to get GONE!!!. Many of us are looking to either go to new departments or retire. THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE NOT TELLING YOU!!!
YALL KNOW FULL WELL WHAT WE ARE GOING THROUGH AT THIS DEPARTMENT AND YOU CONTINUE TO IGNORE OUR WELL BEING AND CONTINUE TO SHOW THAT WE ARE NOT WANTED, LOVED, OR CARED FOR.
I’ll see yall at the council meeting tomorrow so i can give another first hand witness testimony on the record of what we are going through and it can be ignored again!!

Oh, please. This is coming from a firefighter who raked in over $1,200,000 from Compton in the last five years, and he’s still whining? This man is severely out of touch!
He must have forgotten, or is ignorant, that the median income for Compton residents is a $29,000? And here he is spending time writing about his faux victimhood and complaining of all things the city didn’t buy him food? GTFOH
Not all residents, read voters, bought into the fire engine red “dog and pony show.” Just in time for election I might add. Trucks were approved under Aja Brown. Arrived some time ago so why bark so loud now? Then they still have modifications to be made, which they can’t say how long will take, before the engines can even be put into use! But knowing Compton likes to toot its horn about “much ado about nothing,” there probably will be yet another press conference when the trucks finally get to roll, who knows when. Yet people are sent to chastise the firemen who have been putting up with the lunacy this long. Thank you, Councilman Bowers, however, for continuing to press public safety and continuing to push for the addressing of fire department deficiencies.
