Days after placing the HR Director on paid administrative, over a dozen department managers have sent a letter to board President Channing Hawkins, demanding the removal of the agencies General Manager Clarence Mansell.
Board member Greg Young said in a phone interview with Southern California News Group (SCNG) that he was disturbed by the series of events that have transpired this year.
State audits found issues with internal controls, whistle-blowers allege corruption in awarding of contracts and now employees are seeking the dismissal of the general manager. It has also been revealed that the current HR Director Deborah Martinez is facing federal tax evasion allegations for failure to report millions in income derived from a contract with Caltrans.
City of Baldwin Park elected’s are still knee deep in a lawsuit surrounding the firing of their former police chief.
Young was also disappointed in newly elected board member Channing Hawkins’ reluctance to step up and take action, as he vowed to do during his campaign, where he promised more transparency and accountability.
The agencies managers have made many complaints, in the past, that are now corroborated due to SCNG’s investigation of the agency.
