This weeks Compton city council agenda details how the city manager proposes Measure P proceeds be spent. Despite receiving $14 million in grants, Haley is requesting $35 million from Measure P proceeds go towards the Wilmington Ave Port Access project. Compton called the project a “huge benefit” to repair the city’s infrastructure while simultaneously asking voters to raise the city’s sales tax to pay for those “benefits” themselves? How will Compton benefit from all of this? Residents in nearby Wilmington have issues with a massive railyard being planned by Warren Buffet in their low-income community, citing environmental and noise concerns. On the flip side, shouldn’t residents be happy with all the construction jobs heading to them via the local hire requirement?
