El Camino College Board Trustee Ken Brown is alleging he is facing racism as the board’s lone Black elected official. Brown’s frustrations were outlined in an email titled “Who is Jim Mahler”. Â
“I’m tired of her [Kelsy] crew and I’m calling her racist actions out from now on,” said Brown.
The emails do not detail who “Kelsy” is.
Mahler is president of the California Federation of Teachers. Brown is dodging claims he is against public schools given that his child attends Da Vinci Charter.
Brown also references an Inglewood Town Hall where racist signs were held up against him by a well-known Black activist.
Brown is the area representative for Inglewood voters and has never explained why he has bypassed Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) in favor of Da Vinci.
“El Camino has passed multiple school construction bonds and how has he advocated for Black students and/or Black businesses under his tenure on the board,” asked a community advocate and proponent of Black Lives Matter. “He can’t answer because he hasn’t.”
