Steve_BradfordHahn and Hall Lead List of Growing Supporters for Bradford’s Campaign

GARDENA, CA – Steven Bradford, who was termed out of the state Assembly in 2014, has announced his intention to seek the California’s 35th Senate district seat in 2016.  The 35th district includes Carson, Compton, Gardena, Harbor City, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox, Watts, Willowbrook and Wilmington.[adsenseyu2]

“I’m excited to announce my campaign for California’s 35th Senate district seat in 2016,” said Bradford.

“I’m equally pleased to be able to share with you that this announcement comes with the support of two very important people—Congressmember Janice Hahn (CA-44) and Senator Isadore Hall III (D-35).”

Bradford represented parts of the 35th Senate district for 18 years as a member of the California state Assembly and the Gardena City Council, and is known to have a solid track record of getting the job done for Californians locally and in Sacramento.

In addition to Hahn and Hall’s support, California Senate president pro tem Kevin de León is also backing Bradford’s campaign for the 35th Senate district.  Hall, Hahn, de León lead a growing list of supporters that include Congressmembers Karen Bass and Diane Watson (ret.), Los Angeles 11th District Councilmember Mike Bonin, Torrance Mayor Pat Furey, Gardena Councilmember Rachel C. Johnson, Carson Mayor Pro Tem Elito M. Santarina, Carson Councilmember Albert Robles, Lawndale Mayor Robert Pullen-Miles, and former Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster.

Mr. Bradford was the first African-American elected to the Gardena City Council and successfully served for 12 years.  During that time Bradford balanced the budget during a time when the City had a huge debt from bad investments and was able to do this without raising taxes, a move that helped create a surplus that allowed Gardena to maintain vital services and not layoff workers.  He is also credited with creating local jobs and small business opportunities while successfully working with President Obama’s administration to bring Economic Stimulus funding to Gardena to train police officers and to operate the new Transit Center.

Representing us in Sacramento, Bradford pushed forward and championed thoughtful and innovative legislation on behalf of all Californians.

“I have deep roots in the 35th district and have lived here since I was nine years old. I attended Purche Avenue Elementary School, Henry Clay Junior High School and Gardena High School before earning a degree in political science from California State University, Dominguez Hills,” continued Bradford. “I’m a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma where I served as a national officer.  My mother has worked as a nurse locally for more than 45 years.”

Bradford has hired SG&A Campaigns (Steve Barkan, Parke Skelton, Mike Shimpock) and Dan Weitzman to run his campaign.
