State Controller Betty Yee’s office has confirmed they are in the final stages of preparing a recent audit of the city of Inglewood for public release. Is this why City Treasurer Wanda Brown has become so vocal over the city’s finances?
Last June, 2UrbanGirls was able to confirm the existence of the audit, which prompted the Daily Breeze to do their own investigating, and confirm the audit too.
The auditor is looking into the city’s finances, however, City Hall insiders share that the employees are not willing participants to unravel the truth behind excess bonuses and an overinflated reserve fund.
Brown has taken the city council to task, over the last four weeks, regarding the finances. City Manager Artie Fields has countered with a staff report discussing the city’s noncompliance with the city’s Investment Policy. Items that would’ve been of concern to state auditors.
Brown has also been vocal over her involvement in selecting names for the city’s housing lottery, which saw the city spend $1 million dollars to purchase two homes, one for a city employee. Brown threw a fellow employee in the mix when she publicly named her for calling the winners names out loud.
Michael Cheng, with the state controller’s office, says Inglewood residents can expect the report to be released in the coming months. You can check in on the reports release by clicking here.
