Sheriff Alex Villanueva has responded to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority board members who are preparing to vote on transit security contract extensions with the Sheriff, Los Angeles and Long Beach Police Departments.

During his Dec. 1 briefing on social media, Sheriff Villanueva pointed out that the cost overruns on the contract derive from LAPD, who uses officers to work overtime shifts.
The Sheriff’s department employs full-time deputies whose sole job is transit security.
It is unknown whether any of the members of the Metro board use public transportation or how they ascertain comments from the public.
The South Bay Metro Service Council meets regularly, but typically to an audience of less than five members of the public.
