CARSON – 2UrbanGirls has confirmed City Manager Sharon Landers was been placed on administrative leave by the new council majority during a special meeting held Dec. 9.
“Yes, Landers was placed on leave, and I heard Faye Moseley was fired,” said Councilman Jawane Hilton, who declined to comment further.
Landers and Moseley, who last served as HR Director, have become embroiled in controversy in City Hall with allegations of bullying, and intimidating city employees.
Hilton took the unusual step of stepping away from his chair, during an August city council meeting, to speak out as a resident during public comment.
“I am addressing this body as a lifelong resident,” said Hilton. “I am very concerned about our city manager bullying, discriminating, and her attitude towards employees and myself. Too many employees are afraid to speak out because of their fear of retaliation. I can no longer sit to the side and this must be exposed.”
“She covers up her bullying by hiding behind powers in our city charter,” said Hilton. “Her bullying ways must stop. I am a resident and approve this message.”
Hilton also spoke against reducing the duties and salaries of the city clerk’s position.
The day after being sworn into office, Myla Rahman, abruptly resigned from the position and has offered no public comment as to what was behind her decision.
Some believe there is politicking going on behind the scenes and are curious if Rahman’s campaign was a ruse.
Mayor Pro Tem Jim Dear, Councilwoman Arlene Rojas and Councilman Jawane Hilton voted in favor of placing Landers on leave.
This week the council is expected to formally vacate the city clerk’s seat and discuss options on whether to appoint or hold [another] special election.
