Taken between March 21 and 24, 2016, Garin-Hart-Yang conducted a survey among a representative sample of 401 likely June primary voters. The survey, which has a margin of error of +5%, is fully representative of the 44th CD by region, ethnicity, and other key demographic factors.
In the memo, Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group writes, “The following presents the key survey findings:
“Senator Hall starts the campaign to succeed Janice Hahn as the prohibitive front-runner, easily outdistancing his opponents in the initial trial heat:
Isadore Hall, Democrat/California State Senator — 35%
Christopher Castillo, Republican/clerk and carpenter– 10%
Armando Sotomayor, Democrat/community volunteer– 7%
Nanette Diaz Barragan, Democrat/children’s advocate/attorney– 5%
Other candidates — 7%
“The BREADTH of Senator Hall’s electoral support is impressive; he leads in EVERY part of the 44th CD, he is the top vote-getter among whites, African-Americans, and Latinos, and he gets the same 35% vote share among both men AND women…
“…In conclusion, Isadore Hall starts the campaign in a strong position, and with his impressive list of local endorsements (including Janice Hahn, whom 61% of respondents rate as doing a “good” or “excellent” job as congresswoman) and his continued fundraising success that will help him communicate his compelling personal background as a community activist, law enforcement official, and state legislator, he can and will be elected the next congressperson from this district.”
Beyond today’s poll, Senator Hall has won endorsements from incumbent Congresswoman Janice Hahn, the California Democratic Party, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor AFL-CIO and Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
