Many South L.A and South East L.A residents are now aware that Reggie Jones-Sawyer (Reggie) suffered a humiliating defeat against Community Leader Efren Martinez during the primary election in March. Some would say that the victory was contributed to residents wanting change after seven years of dealing with a disconnected, negligent and absent leader like Reggie others will simply give the credit to the large Latino voter population in Assembly District 59.
This humiliating defeat has pushed Reggie to adopt desperate and malicious tactics. After weeks of attacks against Efren Martinez from special interest in Sacramento the Reggie campaign officially kicked off their negative campaign against Efren Martinez this week. Another strategy that the defeated Reggie adopted after he was beaten was to engage in Latino Tokenism.
Reggie hired Paula Ramirez, an up and coming political star from the Northeast part of Los Angeles, as a token Latina. This politically motivated hiring quickly backfired and has led to chaos and rampant insubordination within the district team. The District Director (Daysha Austin) and Communications Director (Richard Garcia) continuously find themselves at odds with Mrs. Ramirez over issues around policing and standard operating procedures.
The relationships within the office has deteriorated so much so that recently Mrs. Ramirez requested communicating with Reggie and Daysha via text or email in order to ensure that there is a record of their communications. Mrs. Ramirez has become victim of a failed “Tokenism” attempt and must now work in what appears to be a toxic work environment. As a former law enforcement officer, I find these acts to be absolutely alarming and denounce this type of Tokenism. Either way we still have to beg the question…
Why is Mrs. Ramirez still employed by Reggie?
