As I type this email, President Biden just completed a speech on how he wants funds provided in his rescue plan to be used to combat violent crime. Here are some of what he has suggested.
First – Community Policing. The President talked about how successful this has been in some cities. I have been advocating for more Community Policing ever since I was a volunteer with LASD. We need to bring back the Town Hall Sheriff’s Program.
Second – Overtime. The President has suggested that these rescue funds be used to provide overtime to help both the suppression of violent crime, and the investigation of violent crime. Compton has had at least 26 homicides so far this year. That’s way too many.
Third – Technology. Specifically, he mentioned the use of gunshot recognition cameras which Compton did have a few years ago. We need to make sure they are brought back and are working.
Last night, our treasurer, Doug Sanders, announced that Compton has received the President’s first installment of his rescue plan of $17 Million. I would like to STRONGLY SUGGEST that now is the time to designate some of this rescue plan money to the three areas which I have mentioned above.
