There’s a old term from Down South that says ” The Devil are in the details” and upon further review , Inglewood’s proposed tax measure is thin on details and huge on deception.
With that being said 2UrbanGirls, I invite you and your readers to review the Staff report prepared by the Inglewood Finance dept for August 3rd , 2021 City Council meeting in support of the City declaring a fiscal emergency.
Along with this extensive staff report and public testimony provided by Assistant Finance Director Sharon Koike, she made statements in the above mentioned meeting, citing the need to declare a fiscal emergency was “necessary” as the unprecedented downturn in the economy due to Covid-19 severely impacted the City finances and as a result could impact Inglewood’s ability to provide services, such as public safety. Without emergency intervention, such as declaring a fiscal emergency, and raising of certain taxes, would result in a loss of services and possible layoffs at City Hall.
I mean to those with a discerning ear it sounds reasonable, but like I said the devil is always in the details.
Buried in that same report is a document prepared by James Rabe of CRE dated July 17th, 2021 , specifically citing raising the TOT tax and real estate transfer tax as revenue / income sources as a way to increase revenue for capital improvement projects, specifically the Automated People Mover which is largely being pushed in conjunction with Sofi stadium and the Inglewood Basketball Entertainment Center.
Well depends on who you listen to.
According to Mayor James Butts these measures are harmless, sold on the notion that the measures wouldn’t directly harm Inglewood residents as these taxes would be “transactional” in nature only affecting real estate transactions exceeding a certain threshold that would absorbed by the buyer, and with the same sales pitch, bantered about as it relates to the hotel occupancy tax.
Do not be misled Inglewood these two proposed tax measures are poisonous pills disguised like a pigs makeup with ill intentions.
Let me tell you what passage of these measures mean, and what’s sure and fast to follow.
Passing these measures is the proverbial “nail in the coffin”, in setting in motion a mass exodus / gentrification of not only renters but also homeowner’s.
What more proof do we need to see that everyone in the Mayor’s eyes is expendable and he will lie, cheat, steal, entrap, and entangle others in his compulsive web of lies and deception.
