My recent Facebook post about Councilmember Al Austin’s offensive statements toward me stem from a LACDP meeting that was in place to conduct interviews for Long Beach City Council candidates seeking the party’s endorsement.
After simply asking what Councilmember Al Austin’s position was on Measure WW, to approve panic buttons in hotels, which he voted against, Austin appeared defensive and hostile with his response. (This question was not personal but simply asked as 1 of several questions asked of the candidates that day.)
His response directed toward me with repeated use of my name was unwarranted and made me incredibly uncomfortable, likely leaving the rest of the room to feel uneasy too.
I eventually discovered that his bullying tactics were experienced by other women who described their occurrences after I shared my post.
Councilmember Jeanine Pearce’s repost speaks to a truth and also points out how rape culture should not be normalized.
No one should use rape culture to incite fear or intimidation or ignore the repercussions of the normalization of rape culture because it is damaging and has oppressed too many for too long.
You should see the comment a hotel worker shared about a comment Al made…
