Was the Los Angeles Times revelation that U.S. Congresswoman and leading candidate for Los Angeles Mayor , Karen Bass being gifted a scholarship for over $90,000 towards her pursuit of a master’s degree at University of Southern California a surprise to anyone?
Come on , if anyone is being honest, we’re all waiting for the next proverbial ” shoe to drop” in the ongoing political scandal that has encompassed the City of Los Angeles , expanding the greater Los Angeles County area and potentially statewide.
Let’s just say this and I’ll reaffirm my comments that I made when Mark Ridley-Thomas was initially indicted. As long as Mark Ridley-Thomas continued to fight these charges, and do it so publicly, with almost a sense of arrogance, entitlement, and or appreciation of the seriousness of the FBI indictment, and the allegations against him, then he would by default be the downfall of her campaign.
Do I have enough information on Karen Bass or Mark Ridley-Thomas to determine whether they are “good” people
But I do see a familiar pattern that a reasonable person could imply that these two clearly are exchanging their position of power and influence for their own personal gain.
I guess I should be mad at Karen Bass and politicians like her, but it appears to me that certain members of the “African American” community have created an air of allowance for politicians of color to engage in these nefarious or questionable activities with no fear of any serious consequences.
2UrbanGirls, in closing, I want to be mad and wish that other folks were just as mad as me but I’m afraid to say, I like many others, have become desensitized to corruption almost to the point of justification or rationalizing politicians, particularly those of color as illegal gains from politics as “perks of the job”.
I’ll just say this, I think justifying corruption has and will continue to cause irreparable damage to our democracy and I could honestly reason with a person who compares Karen Bass’ actions, to that of Mark Ridley-Thomas, and could see a an eerily concerning comparison between the two situations.
Just pondering out loud.
