Dear 2Urbangirls,
I remember asking myself about a year ago , what would be Inglewood’s unforgivable “Sin”. In essence, what would be the final straw that that breaks Inglewood’s back as the old folks use to say in exchange for the ” powers that be” to allow Mayor Butts Carte blanche freedom to run the City of Inglewood the way he seems fit?
I mean I guess things happen but to lose over 20 employees in less than 2 years, many being sworn officers in leadership capacity that should send off the alarm bells for everyone. I mean we can sit here and pontificate the many reasons of the mass exodus at the Inglewood Police Department but ultimately the end result comes down to is or was the City of Inglewood , from having the perspective of analyzing the City’s ability to manage it’s new prosperity was or ever will be in the near future have the infrastructure from a physical and human aspect to manage the fruits and labor of prosperity.
I mean for all intents and purposes we are here and there’s no turning back but it would be foolish not to take heed of the ever growing cracks in the system we know as the City of Inglewood.
In contrast to the glowing , one side article published by the Los Angeles Business Journal which touts the success of making Inglewood the new sports mecca , it falls to examine the challenges in making this all work and as a result of Inglewood and the powers that be who chose to turn a blind eye to managing all this ” success” may have overestimated and overwhelmed the City’s physical and human infrastructure over it’s capacity to handle all this ” prosperity” as the Mayor says.
2Urbangirls this has to work and unfortunately unless the Mayor starts doing some self reflection and start considering that his leadership has played a hand in the mass exodus from the Inglewood Police Department, you can guarantee this exodus will continue to the peril of Inglewood residents and visitors alike.
I mean we didn’t have to be here but unfortunately this is the poisonous fruit of Mayor Butts being the self proclaimed ” smartest” person in the room”and that attitude and or spirit alone sends an alarming message that he’s no longer open to wise counsel and as a result the City as a whole suffers.
Make no mistake the exodus at IPD is a direct rebuke of the Mayor’s leadership and with the Mayor being a former Police Chief and former Inglewood Police Captain he should have the fortitude and the ability to ” read the room” and come to the deductive conclusion that something is amiss in the Inglewood Police Department.
In closing , please don’t be fooled 2Urbangirls the clear dysfunction we’re witnessing @ the Inglewood Police Department is only signs of things to come but wasn’t the first , although some could argue the most publicly devastating , notable sign of failed leadership from an executive level because even the most foolish politician knows not to lose support of the Police.
I mean let’s not be fooled we are witnessing the same upheaval in City Hall with the loss of longtime , key personnel with invaluable , institutional knowledge but the slow , painful demise of the Inglewood Police Department that we are witnessing before our eyes may in fact be the ” Unforgivable Sin” , the literal straw that breaks the camel’s back and only time will tell.
Superbowl week should be very interesting , especially if we keep losing Police officers.
