Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) is taking a closer look at the charter schools operating around within the city of Inglewood. IUSD has already shut down ICEF and Today’s Fresh Start is also headed towards closure. Three more have had their renewal applications denied during a school board meeting held last month.
Truth Academy Charter, the Environmental Charter High School, and the Children of Promise Preparatory Academy are slated to have hearings with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), next week, to plead their case to continue educating children.
2UrbanGirls has reached out to previous staff members of Children of Promise Preparatory Academy, who have all left due to educational and fiscal malfeasance issues. A 2016 article in the Los Angeles Times discussed the schools failures.
This has been corroborated by IUSD who is seeking to have their charters closed. 2UrbanGirls was able to reach IUSD board member D’artagnan Scorza who was candid about the board’s decision.
“Our district is committed to providing access to a high quality education for all of our children and that includes holding charter schools, that are not performing well, accountable to our community and families.”Dr. D’artagnan Scorza
Based on the districts findings, LACOE would be well within their right to uphold the denial of the applications.
