Inglewood to hold Special Council Meeting to announce waiving of some parking citation fees

The Inglewood City Council convened on March 24th to extend eviction protections and carried over discussion surrounding parking citations and trash collection.

Mayor James T. Butts, and Councilmen Eloy Morales and Ralph Franklin, collectively agreed that Inglewood residents were confused by residential street sweeping enforcement as a direct result of a highly publicized directive in the city of Los Angeles.  As a direct result, the city will hold a special council meeting on Friday, March 27th at 10:00am to address residents concerns.

The special council meeting agenda will cover voiding citations, issued for street sweeping, between March 16th and March 30th.  Any parking tickets already paid, covering this time period, will be refunded.

To address parking concerns, the city will make city owned lots, available and free for public use during posted street sweeping times.  Parking on Arbor Vitae, City Hall and the Main City Library can be utilized by the public until the local emergency is terminated.

Trash collection charges will NOT be collected resulting in a $1 million dollar loss to the city’s trash contractor, Republic Services/Consolidated.  Councilman Eloy Morales is a paid consultant to Pacific Waste & Recycling, a subsidiary of Republic/Consolidated.  Morales voted in favor of the 10 year trash contract and subsequent annual rate increases.

False alarm billings will also be waived and water disconnection and late fees will not be incurred by residents serviced by the city of Inglewood.  Residents will be given six (6) months to bring their water accounts current.  Customers of Golden State Water should reach out to them directly.

You can watch the council meeting from the comfort of your home on the city’s official Facebook page or you can attend in Community Room A, where minimal seating is available.

The general public has been excluded from participating in the council meetings seeing that the council doesn’t take comments from viewers, expressing concerns during the live feed provided on Facebook.  During the meeting held on March 24th, the city’s video team showed the view from Community Room A where only two chairs were available for the one person in attendance.
