Inglewood business Jamz Creamery is a black owned ice cream shop located a stones throw from the multi-billion dollar SoFi Stadium. The 4th season of HBO’s “Insecure” premiered on April 12 and show creator Issa Rae continues to highlight community businesses as an act of “good will”. This caught the ire of the owners who found the show’s portrayal of him and his business negatively.
Issa approached the business to use his name then calls him “dirty James” on screen? Is this the same woman always claiming to be “rooting for everyone black”?
Jamz features an ice cream float named after the city’s mayor and is also promoted by Metro and the owner’s sister runs the Inglewood Airport Area Chamber of Commerce.
Issa Rae’s production office is located around the corner from Jamz at 233 S. Market Street and was conveniently unresponsive to requests for comment.

We would like to start by saying that we @jamzcreamery are ever so grateful to be mentioned, or even thought of, on a platform as large as @insecurehbo. To even be mentioned or considered in any manner, at that level is a blessing for which we are truly grateful. As a company, we have taken a few days to gather our thoughts around the issue and have come to the conclusion that there are a few things that we should address. Our city's sister @issarae, for whom we have much respect, extended an invitation for our likeness to be present in season 4 black party scene. Needless to say, we said yes! After viewing the first episode, we feel "some kinda way" about the scene in which Jamz Creamery was mentioned. The manner in which we were mentioned placed a negative connotation on our business, its staff and owner. We would never give our consent to anything that presents a negative perception of Jamz Creamery. Though we are a small and growing business, we thing very highly of who we are, what we bring to the city and who we inspire along the way. Everyone @jamzcreamery represent a standard of excellence and code of ethics that you've come to expect from all business in the @cityofinglewood
