A political newcomer has earned the highly coveted endorsement of both the Gardena police and firefighters union. The endorsements for Roy Kim also include some controversy.
The Daily Breeze is reporting that campaign mailers are being mailed by both the police union and Gardena Mayor Tasha Cerda that claim Kim is a “lifelong resident of Gardena” despite the fact he was born in South Korea and moved to Gardena in 1989.
The Breeze went further to state the 39 year old Kim has actually lived in the city for only 25 years.
Problem is Kim’s website is most likely where they are getting this lie from, which is oddly placed under a banner that says “Character Counts”.
Kim’s opponents are also questioning a convenient appointment he received, by Cerda, to the city’s Human Services Commission.
According to the Daily Breeze, Kim is a small business owner, karate instructor and teaches English to Korean senior citizens.
Gardena voters go to the polls on next Tuesday, March 3rd, to fill two seats on the city council.
Mayor Cerda should be extremely concerned about endorsing someone, outright lying about how long he’s been a resident of Gardena. It brings both her and Kim’s character and integrity into question. Unless she is being made to do so.
Cerda ascended to the Mayor’s seat after the departure of former Mayor Paul Tanaka.
