Compton natives Andre “Dr. Dre” Young and his business partner Jimmy Iovine have been lauded for their donation to the city of Compton for relief related to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Their donation is slated to assist with more residents being tested for the coronavirus and a meal program for the city’ most vulnerable. The giveaway appears to be a joint operation between the city and Vision for Compton.
Before the donation, Compton Councilman Isaac Galvan hosted a community food giveaway with local artist Swifty Blue and resident Martha Barajas, of United Hands, has hosted weekly food and diaper giveaways funded out of their own pockets and community donations. Los Angeles Councilman Herb Wesson provided the diapers.
The city has been tight lipped on the exact amount received and how the donation will be disbursed, but we caught a glimpse via a social media post by Councilwoman Tana McCoy.
The city has partnered with EveryTable who offers healthy, made-from-scratch meals. The city will provide TWO meals per DAY to Compton residents with proof of address by showing either their current ID or utility bill.
The drive-thru giveaway will run through May 6 – June 16; Monday – Friday, between the hours of 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
