Compton City Manager Craig Cornwell shared with the mayor and city Councilmembers today that there is concern that an employee in the city’s water department was exposed to the deadly COVID-19 virus.
The employee confirmed the employees grandmother was confirmed to have the virus. Â The Los Angeles County Department of Health has released an updated count of confirmed cases within LA County and Compton has a total of five confirmed cases.
This comes at a time when the city initially decided to shut down City Hall to the public then decided on March 19th to reopen to the general public. Â Cornwell has also sent out a directive today which will allow certain city employees to telecommute from home if they meet certain requirements.
**update 3/27**
2UrbanGirls has learned through multiple city hall insiders that the employees test came back positive.

Who is responsible for keeping the workers safe? The dedication by employees to come to work in these uncertain times is remarkable, however they need the assurance from their employer that the workplace is safe. Please
Do better to keep people safe so that they can go home to their families the way they left.

The employee tested positive. We didn’t receive any kind of communication letting us know his results.
For sure?!
More like doomed! Public announcement and they still have not communicated with the affected employees. Grandstanding to the public!
City employee here. We are f’d. Hope ALL of City Hall gets the disinfecting cleaning cause people dont stay in one area only. Most likely probably not, just too expensive. We’re just employees, one dies and a replacement shows up. City management is just clueless on what common sense is, but thinking they too smartass cause of their positions. Feeling sad Compton has actually regressed in progress as a City. Im not talking about potholes and streetpaving. All those plans were in place and all that was needed was council approval the years. You cant take credit for someone laying all the foundations and you finalky got council approval. Shame on city management for thinking you did something. Shame on the council for taking so long.
