Rickie Starks

Compton residents fell asleep to gunfire erupting at the intersection of Rosecrans and Aranbee and awoke to a dead body lying in the street.

Victim Rickie Starks, identified by a member of the Eye Witness News in Compton Facebook group, was caught in the cross fire during an attempted routine traffic stop.

Los Angeles County Sheriff deputies were alerted to a possible drunk driver who was behind the wheel of a black Cadillac Escalade.

As the deputies attempted to pull over the car, the occupants began to shoot at the deputies vehicle and later an LASD helicopter.

The deputies chased the Escalade into the city of Inglewood where the occupants abandoned the car and fled on foot. One was captured while the other is still at large.

Compton residents pointed out another shooting, took place a week earlier, at the same Compton intersection, who was affiliated with rapper YG. The victim goes by the stage name Slim400.

The news identified the Escalade as having bulletproof windows which social media users quickly pointed out that YG received a similar car for Christmas. The vehicle in the shooting was identified as being registered to YG, who’s legal name is Keenon Jackson. It is unknown whether YG was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

Compton Councilwoman Michelle Chambers took to social media to state she will be meeting with her council colleagues and deputies to stop the violence in the city. Commenters asked that the Sheriff’s department do more to stop crime. In this situation deputies were.

The Sheriff’s took tips from the community, attempted to pull a car over for community reports of drunk driving and were shot at for doing their job. An innocent victim also lost their life as a direct result.
