Chicago mayor under fire for getting her hair done

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is catching heat for getting her hair trimmed. Lightfoot is defending a social media post by her stylist promoting that she gave the mayor a “trim”. It is always an honor to have a prominent public figure support your business. Lightfoot is being accused of hypocrisy as barber shops and beauty salons have been deemed “non-essential” around the nation and thus closed under the stay-at-home order. Anyone with sense understands Black women will continue to look their best, during these trying times, by any means necessary.
Lightfoot defended getting her hair done as she is in the public eye.
“I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye,” said Lightfoot and reiterated her stylist wore masks and gloves.
Her critics say she doesn’t “have” to be on tv, however, if she weren’t, she would then be accused of not doing her job and keeping the public aware of necessary precautions in order to reopen.
Other notable Black female mayors have kept themselves up under the pandemic as we know first hand the backlash we would face should we go on tv not looking our best.

As I type this article I am in desperate need of a visit to my nail salon as my nails have grown out and are holding on for dear life but are unable to do so because I don’t have a nail tech available for “house calls”. I too am able to continue to get my hair braided, while my braider wears a mask and gloves.

Black women are ALWAYS under fire for our appearance and the state of California passed special legislation called the “Crown Act” to ban hair discrimination in the workplace.

White, male elected officials are also a constant presence on tv and do not receive backlash for their appearance and neither should black women, who are doing a damn good job of leading their city’s in unprecedented times.
2UrbanGirls is happy to see these women keeping themselves up and looking their best as they greet the public on tv and in real life at community food giveaways, and the like.
Leave Black women and our hair ALONE!
Chicago mayor’s hair looked scary!! Geez , come on girl!! You represent black women. Gay or not,do something or wear a hat or cut that mess. Not everyone straightens,I do.
She prefers a “natural” style as many Black women are opting to wear now.
