LOS ANGELES – A worker was struck and killed Wednesday by a construction train at the future site of the Wilshire/La Brea Station on Metro’s Purple Line Extension Project. Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters were called just after 4:50 p.m. to Wilshire Boulevard and La Brea Avenue on reports of a person stuck under a train, according to the department’s Nicholas Prange. COMPTON – County authorities identified a man Thursday who was shot and killed in Compton. The shooting victim was Markel Parker, 24, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. Authorities say Parker died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death has been ruled a homicide. TORRANCE- A man was fatally shot Wednesday outside a bar in Torrance, and his alleged killer was arrested, police said. The shooting occurred about 1 a.m. outside the Hi N Dry bar at 182nd Street and Crenshaw Boulevard, said Torrance police Sgt. Mark Ponegalek. The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office announced a lawsuit Monday against the operator of the vacation rental platform Vrbo for allegedly processing rental bookings for unregistered hosts, in violation of the city’s Short-Term Rental Ordinance. The shooting was reported about 1:40 p.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of South Temple Avenue, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Lizette Falcon.
