Residents in Los Angeles County have long asked for law enforcement officials to be held accountable, when their civil rights are violated. CA Governor Jerry Brown has signed a new law giving courts greater authority to issue injunctions, against police departments, that have a history of civil rights violations.
While City of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti was enjoying his Labor Day, attending the Budweiser Made In America Festival, on taxpayers dime, elderly couple Warren and Harriet Johnson were not. His grandparents, Warren and Harriett Johnson were on their way home from Florida on Friday, August 22 when relatives and neighbors notified them that there was heavy police activity at their home.

This is a great opportunity to be involved in the revitalization of IUSD and give valuable input for the education of Inglewood residents.
Racism in the City of Long Beach Police Department has been a long-standing issue with how they treat minorities in the city. Since video surfaced back in 1989 of former Hawthorne police sergeant Don Jackson being thrown head first through a plate-glass window, during a routine traffic stop, the city had to pay out $15 million for the actions of their officers, things have not changed. From beatings caught on camera, destroying of surveillance videos and their involvement in the Christopher Dorner case, the Long Beach Police Department remains under scrutiny for their questionable actions. Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) narrowly avoided an audit last month, since the state loaned the beleaguered district $55 million dollars via SB 533. Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), with the support of Asm. Isadore Hall III (D-Compton), was three votes shy of the required amount to trigger the audit. Huff was adamant about bringing the issue back in August and he has.
Dear Lt. James; In reading though the most recent publication of Rap Sheet, the magazine published by the Long Beach Police Union, I was struck by the severe scolding you gave city hall in your column, “The Whole Truth,“ and was especially surprised by the article’s conclusion where you said:
Although it has been widely reported that the City of Compton is being investigated, the timing is quite coincidental, noting that a trial for voter fraud was prepared to start last Thursday, August 7th. The district attorney’s office called for the trial to be continued until September citing “possible criminal activity”. It appears the investigation isn’t as cut and dry as one would think.
Marlene Pinnock, the woman who was videotaped being beat by a CHP on the side of the 10 freeway is speaking out. 2UrbanGirls believes wholewheartedly that the CHP officer was overzealous in his actions, yet doesn’t sympathize with someone who doesn’t take responsibility for their own actions.
