Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. is recovering from a “life saving procedure” after suffering a heart attack in his city hall office March 8. Despite the severity of his illness, he took time to email city employees the following day, and will return to work the day after being released from UCLA Medical Center.
Mayor Butts is believed to be under a severe amount of financial and professional pressure.
In early 2019, he began pulling lump sums of money out of his homes, and continues to be named in lawsuits due to his actions, which he could be held personally liable.
Butts is facing two lawsuits stemming from an auto accident near USC after nearly killing an LAPD motor officer and a mother and her child.
Butts’ former aide Melanie McDade has filed a wrongful termination/sexual harassment claim against him alleging he stalks her via a tracking device on her car.
Treasurer Wanda Brown has filed a claim against the city, also citing wrongful termination. Butts corroborated her claims that he obstructed her from entering city hall, her office and her computer.
2UrbanGirls is hearing rumors that McDade’s attorney of record, Carl Douglas, is representing a SECOND woman in city hall.
Now we are hearing a THIRD woman, who works in city hall, has retained the services of high profile lawyer Gloria Allred.
Butts’ biggest concern is whether he will be forced to pay out of his own pocket for his indiscretions.
Former Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar found himself in a similar predicament when his former chief of staff filed sexual harassment claims against him. Los Angeles taxpayers footed the bill for Huizar’s legal defense, however, he had a developer provide him collateral on a $600,000 line of credit to pay her off.
Butts’ health issues derive from his inability to control “little jimmy”, and the fallout he expects when Allred presents her accuser to the public.
