Will Inglewood Councilman George Dotson have a “come to Jesus” moment? Â A scathing KCET SoCalConnected episode aired last night that revealed Councilman Dotson is under investigation related to campaign donations he received by Inglewood Mayor James Butts. Â The outstanding loans, totaling more than $150k, was first reported by 2UrbanGirls and is finally being picked up, without credit, by mainstream media. Â What wasn’t reported is the outstanding loans made to Dotson’s campaign by his wife Ida Dotson.

George Dotson was a long serving Inglewood Planning Commissioner who unsuccessfully ran for Inglewood City Council a record four times and was handily defeated each time. Â Dotson also was the recipient of a large sums of Inglewood Police Asset Forfeiture Funds via his carpet/flooring business, Washington Interiors, which was based in the City of Los Angeles.
Due to Mayor Butts’ desires to bring Inglewood out of (alleged) bankruptcy, he needed to rid the council of Judy Dunlap and Mike Stevens who voted against many of the Mayor’s motions. Â Mike Stevens, the former District 1 Councilman, passed away in 2017, yet is still listed on Mayor Butts campaign docs for outstanding loans.
Mayor Butts pumped over $100k into Dotson’s fifth election attempt and he defeated Stevens. Â His first order of business was to vote affirmatively for the NFL stadium project. Â He has been Mayor Butts puppet ever since.
Defunct local newspaper, the Morningside Park Chronicle, regularly documented Dotson as being unfit for public office. Â He was unaware of the when Inglewood’s fiscal year started and ended and rarely, if at all, answers questions from the public. Â When viewing Inglewood City Council meetings, Mayor Butts is regularly seen whispering in Dotson’s ear presumably to prompt his speech.
The latest concern was Dotson funding a “Mega Block Party” by a Facebook group run by Mayor Butts. Â Dotson allocated nearly $6k and Inglewood Police services for the unregistered party promoters “Mega Block Party Events” who advertised a website megablockpartyevents.com that is not working. The group also solicited donations, without being a recognized non-profit, from the business community, who are all attached to Mayor Butts.
The city video production team, Deputy to the City Manager Yakema Decatur and Thomas Bunn, produced a video of the event which appeared to be nothing more than an event highlighting Mayor Butts to support his bid for re-election in November.  This same team is being accused of altering a city council meeting video where the Mayor told a resident to “choke herself”.  During the weeks following meeting, video surfaced showing the Mayor’s bodyguard and the IPD Seargant At-Arms attempting to physically wrestle a flash drive from the hands of Joe Texiera, who the Mayor unsuccessfully sued using taxpayer funds.
The community believes Dotson is being forced to do what the Mayor says in order to keep his $60k annual salary and taxpayer-funded benefits. To ensure Dotson’s compliance with what he wants, the Mayor has installed Alicia Smith, a former police officer, as his liaison to ensure Dotson tows the line. Next to Councilman Ralph Franklin, they are the two weakest members of the council.

KCETÂ Â reported the FPPC has sent a letter to Councilman Dotson alerting him he is under investigation and residents want to know exactly how he is paying back the $150k Mayor Butts has lent his campaign. Â Mayor Butts is already under investigation for failing to report money he received from his brother Michael, after he helped him secure employment with the city’s trash hauler, Republic Services. Â Has Dotson been paying the Mayor back under the table?

2UrbanGirls is led to believe that the person closest to Councilman Dotson, his faithful wife Ida, is also fed up with the Mayor bullying her husband.  In an August post on 2UrbanGirls Facebook page, we posted this picture, referencing the Mayor’s bullying and censoring the community. Mrs. Ida Dotson “liked” the post.
2UrbanGirls wonders if Ida Dotson will save her husband, from possible prosecution and shed light on her husband and Mayor Butts arrangements and whether her husband has been paying back his outstanding debt or not.
In addition to the investigation of Councilman Dotson, fellow council member Eloy Morales is also under investigation for a consulting contract he received from Republic Services subsidiary, Pacific Waste, after he voted in favor of their contract and subsequent rate increases.

Start Dotson at LT. Don’t ever put Benenoch at RT again. Better let Cappa get reps there. He can pass block. EDS is very good filling in at RG. If Dotson does better than D. Smith (D. Smith 42 pressures last year and Dotson 13 pressures) than when D. Smith returns play him at LG and move Marpet back to RG and keep Cappa at RT. Next year first round take a LT to train behind Dotson.
