Adelanto Mayor Pro Tem Gerardo Hernandez is on life support and fighting for his life. Hernandez has a history of asthma and began experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus since early March. His wife Tracy has taken to social media to provide more insight into his condition.
“He was admitted on March 18 and has been fighting for his life the entire time,” said Hernandez in a Facebook post. “I am not able to be at his side during this because of how contagious COVID-19 is. He is alone in an isolation room.”
Tracy Hernandez said on or around March 9, her husband began showing symptoms of a common cold. On March 12, the Adelanto City Council held an emergency meeting to declare a local emergency and urged residents to self-quarantine in their homes.
“Why I am speaking about this now instead of 13 days ago is because we are still waiting on the results of his COVID-19 test,” Tracy Hernandez said. “The first labs that were taken came back as a false negative and we are still waiting on the second labs that were done.”
According to his wife, Hernandez is at an undisclosed hospital intubated and has experienced organ failure, septic shock and requires dialysis multiple times per week.
Hernandez was elected to city council in 2018.
