The Baptist Ministers Conference, The AME Ministerial Alliance of Southern California, and The Faith Community Coalition are working together with The SoLa I CAN Foundation to promote and support their Tech and Entrepreneurship Summer Camp Program designed to uplift, educate, and train brown and Black youth to be the next generation of tech professional and leaders from South LA.
Says Pastor Tulloss, President of the Baptist Ministers Conference, “I believe that it’s imperative that our community—particularly the families and kids in the pews of our churches across South LA—have the opportunity to learn about and gain mastery in tech and entrepreneurship. I am looking forward to working with our strategic partners to roll this program out.”
Pastor Cager, Founder of Faith Community Coalition and President of AME Ministerial Alliance of Southern California, further states, “BIPOC have been at the tail end of the technology curve. The greatest gains in the S&P 500 in our lifetimes have come from the technology sector. The camps that SoLa I CAN are providing will give our kids the tools to not just use apps and play games, but to build apps, design games and own the companies that drive our economy.”
The camps will run from June 14 to July 16 for students between the ages of 10 to 14 years old.
Programming will feature five modules, each designed to teach students how to create animation projects, tell digital stories, and generate other foundational technology skills that can turn into a variety of lucrative career paths in their futures.
SoLa I CAN Executive Director and South LA native Sherri Francois, “We are thrilled to partner with such amazing faith-based organizations to help seed a love of technology and entrepreneurship in the minds of our community’s Black and brown youth. Our youth just need access to technology education opportunities to thrive. This Summer camp is just the beginning.”
Enrollment is limited, so interested residents are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
