Letter: Internal struggles could lead to Compton city manager’s ouster!

2 Urban Girls,

Thank you for your coverage on the chaos surrounding the City’s credit card program. What isn’t being discussed is who is at the root of the problem.

Compton’s executive team is in a shambles as an investigation into the credit card purchases is causing major dissention between the City Council and City Manager Willie Hopkins. Councilmembers are calling for a complete overhaul of the administration office.

The city manager’s office is charged with holding the credit cards and it is not a coincidence that one member of the city council has been allowed to charge the taxpayers for purchases not related to either training or travel. The payment of the credit card has been shielded from the public eye because warrant registers detailing the checks going out of City Hall are NEVER disclosed to the public on the weekly city council agendas.

One of the members of the city manager’s office is also being reimbursed from the campaign account of the same councilmember being accused of misappropriation of public funds.

Is Willie Hopkins and other members of his executive staff on their way out?

Let’s not be modest, SAY THEIR NAME! TRIPHENIA SIMMONS, Assistant City Manager. Triphenia is the only person in the City Managers office with the longevity and knowledge on how to manipulate the process and the numbers and with authority to approve credit card purchases. If Hopkins was smart he would eradicate that Cancer faster than radiation treatment.
