NORWALK – Closing arguments are set to begin in the murder trial of David Marvin Blake on Dec. 2 in a Norwalk courtroom.
The son of rapper DJ Quik was charged Tuesday with murdering a man after a fight at a home in Downey.
David Martin Blake, 27, is charged with the May 25, 2022, killing of Julio Cardoza. Cardoza was shot following a dispute in the 13200 block of Carfax Avenue. This is according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The dispute took place at the victim’s family home after Galvan and Blake attended a graduation ceremony for Galvan’s son. Cardoza is the uncle of Galvan’s son.
Unconfirmed reports indicate the dispute was between Galvan and Cardoza and then Blake intervened.
Blake, who was in a car nearby, allegedly fatally shot Cardoza and then drove away, according to prosecutors.
The 33-year-old victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, died that day at a hospital. This is according to records from the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Blake was the liaison to former Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan. Galvan was removed from the Compton City Council after a judge ruled illegal votes were cast for him in the June 2021 Compton General Election.
“I send my thoughts and prayers to all the families involved in the incident as their lives have been forever changed,” Compton Mayor Emma Sharif said. She made this statement at the time of Blake’s arrest.
