INGLEWOOD – A student was stabbed at an Inglewood high school, formerly known as Morningside High School Thursday morning.
This come after principal Dr. Lamar Collins continuosly downplayed the continued safety issues on the campus after the district combined two schools with rival gang members.
The Inglewood Police Department confirmed four students were involved in a fight that led to one student being stabbed in the shoulder.
“One student used a pocket knife and stabbed another student in the shoulder, causing a non-life-threatening puncture wound,” read a statement from police.
One student was taken into custody, according to a statement issued by the department.
2 Urban Girls reached out to Dr. Collins on October 19 after teachers became concerned with guns being on campus, constant fights breaking out between students at the local Costco located a block north of the campus, and continued break-ins of closed classrooms.
“The biggest challenges have been off campus and we have not had a gun on campus, we had someone show a picture of a student with a toy gun that looked real,” said Dr. Collins when reached for comment.
According to staff, Dr. Collins doesn’t have a firm grip on the school since Morningside High School officially closed and consolidated students from Inglewood High School due to its closure for a complete renovation.
“Students are running amok all day, tearing up classrooms, breaking into closed buildings, kicking doors when they can’t get in. Administrators don’t do anything, and the entire staff feels threatened and stressed out. It’s like a jungle. Completely inexcusable to put the good students and the staff through all of that.”
The biggest issue is rival gangs being housed on campus which results in elevated safety concerns for students and staff.
“Staff members do not feel safe on campuses due to understaffing and unruly student behavior,” said a teacher who requested anonymity to avoid retaliation.
“Violence keeps occurring on campus, and district administrators keep blocking suspensions.”
Staff don’t feel safe at the school and despite their repeated pleas for Dr. Collins to take control of the situation, it has resulted in a student being stabbed.
“We’re building something great, and we still have tremendous challenges, which I can’t deny, but the growth can’t be denied either,” said Dr. Collins.
How many more students’ lives are in danger under the leadership of Dr. Collins?
