CARSON – A groundbreaking partnership between Ormat Technologies, Towne Avenue Elementary School, and Enrich LA celebrated a major milestone Nov. 21 with the ribbon cutting for Towne Avenue Elementary’s new Solar Kitchen – a hands-on learning space powered entirely by renewable energy.
The Solar Kitchen is more than a classroom – it’s an interactive experience where over 300 students can see firsthand how sunlight powers the food they grow and the meals they prepare. This innovative project combines sustainability, science, and community collaboration to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders.
“At Ormat, clean energy is more than technology; it’s a promise to the next generation that a cleaner, brighter future is within reach,” said Kyle Snyder, Vice President of Business Development for Ormat. “We’re honored to partner with Towne Avenue Elementary and Enrich LA to give students a tangible way to see renewable energy in action.”
With more than six decades of experience in renewable energy, Ormat understands the importance of building a sustainable future for Carson. That shared commitment brought Ormat together with Towne Avenue Elementary and Enrich LA to create a project that empowers students to learn, innovate, and lead.
“At Towne Avenue Elementary Community School, we’re proud to give our students hands-on learning experiences that connect directly to the world around them,” said Towne Avenue Principal Wendy Sanchez. “Our partnership with Enrich LA and Ormat Technologies helps students learn about the importance of clean energy and how sustainability and creativity can build a better future.”
Enrich LA extends this vision through its Garden Ranger Program, which brings environmental education to schools across Los Angeles. “We believe every child should experience the joy of growing, harvesting, and preparing real food,” said Tomas O’Grady, Executive Director of Enrich LA. “The new garden and solar kitchen will help students see how sunlight powers the meals they make, connecting sustainability and community in a joyful, lasting way.”
City of Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes also praised the initiative. “Our future in Carson is being built on innovation, sustainability, and opportunity,” said Mayor Davis-Holmes. “This partnership gives our kids firsthand experience with renewable energy and shows them that a cleaner, healthier Carson is something they can help create today.”
