INGLEWOOD – The Inglewood City Council will hold a public hearing on Dec. 16 to raise businesses and residents water bills after voting to raise trash rates on Nov. 25 citing a rate increase from West Basin Municipal Water District (wholesaler) who the City (retailer) buys water from.
Inglewood Councilwoman Gloria Gray is a voting member of both the Inglewood City Council AND West Basin Municipal Water District. On June 24, 2024, Gray attended the Board of Director’s meeting. Before the vote, Gray was specifically asked if she had any questions on the budget and she replied “NO”.
The board, including Gray, voted in favor of adopting the 2024-2025 budget that raised water rates for water retailers, including Inglewood. The water wholesaler issued a press release after the board’s vote.
On June 24, 2024, the West Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors approved the annual operating budget for the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 (FY24-25), which begins July 1, 2024, and ends June 30, 2025. The FY24-25 budget includes a two-step rate increase for West Basin retailers. Rates will increase 1.8%, effective July 1, 2024, followed by an 11.2% increase effective January 1, 2025, to reflect a pass-through of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s scheduled rate increase for treated imported water supplies in 2025.”
