INGLEWOOD – The Inglewood City Council is seeking to increase residents’ water rates during a scheduled public hearing on December 16, however, property owners have a chance to stop it.
The Inglewood City Council has not told the public how the City has accumulated multi-million dollar deficits in its Water and Trash Funds.
The mayor and the council owe the residents answers on how these deficits have grown unchecked while they continue to spend lavishly as if the City isn’t under financial constraints.
Marvin McCoy
Inglewood is proposing a “tiered water rate” for residential customers on their water bill.
The recent court ruling ordered $79 million in the Patz v. City of San Diego case—refunded to ratepayers1 after rejecting the City’s tiered based billing system.
California’s Proposition 218 requires public water agencies to follow a specific process for any water rate increases. This process includes providing customers with notice, holding a public hearing, and basing rates on the actual cost of service. If a majority of property owners file a valid written protest, the agency cannot implement the new rates.
Thank you District 1 Commissioner Leonard Redway for supplying this protest letter template for residents to print and use.
