COMPTON – Compton Councilman Andre Spicer announced his candidacy for mayor on a message posted on his social media account Nov. 1.
“Today is more than a campaign announcement — it’s a call to action. A call to rise from where we are now and step boldly into what’s next.
Because the truth is, Compton deserves more. More than patched-up promises. More than reactive leadership. More than survival. We deserve a future we build — not one we wait for.
That’s why I’m officially announcing my candidacy for Mayor of Compton.”
Spicer will run against Compton Mayor Emma Sharif who kicked off her re-election with a fundraiser hosted by Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr.
Compton is preparing for massive gentrification due to the expansion of the Metro A Line (formerly the Blue Line) and the City’s efforts to revitalize the surrounding area through Transit-Oriented Development packaged as “Next Stop Compton”.

In 2022, Compton kicked off the environmental review period for the new Compton Station TOD Specific Plan, which would encompass more than 570 acres of land centered on the at-grade Metro stop located at Willowbrook Avenue and Compton Boulevard. The station, which abuts the Compton Civic Center, sees approximately 3,400 daily boardings, and is abutted by a number of large shopping centers and empty lots which could be candidates for redevelopment.
The Specific Plan focuses its rezoning effort on three key “Downtown” areas within Compton.
- The Civic Center, anchored by MLK Memorial Plaza, would be retained in its existing form. However, zoning could accommodate the construction of new buildings between 3 and 10 stories in height at selected sites, with maximum densities of up to 175 residential units per acre.
- The Commercial Core, consisting of the Compton Renaissance Center and Towne Center shopping center,s as well as MLK Transit Plaza and other areas abutting the A Line stop, would be rezoned to permit similar 3-to-10-story buildings with densities of up to 175 residential units per acre.
- Historic Core/Compton Boulevard East, stretching along Compton Boulevard from Alameda Street to Santa Fe Avenue, would be rezoned to allow buildings between 3 and 6 stories in height, with a maximum density of 100 units per acre.
With Spicer declaring his bid for mayor, it will open the door for a new councilperson for District 2.
The area was previously represented by Isaac Galvan, Compton’s first Latino councilmember who became entangled in a voting scandal that removed him from the seat after Spicer filed a civil lawsuit against him.
In January 2024, Spicer received a $90,000 campaign contribution from Andre “Dr. Dre” Young for his mayoral bid. It is not known if Dr. Dre will pump more money into Spicer’s campaign.
Spicer’s campaign committee will host its first fundraiser, dubbed “Dinner and Cigars,” on Nov. 22. To learn more about Andre Spicer’s campaign visit andrespicer4mayor.com.
Compton will hold its election on June 2, 2026.

Andre Spicer is completely incompetent to be considered for Mayor. He has zero executive training, no credible work history until in his 40’s, a police record across multiple states, a history of significant public drug use and allegations of him being a past drug dealer and gang member. He has been involved in domestic physical abuse with his mother and sister. Voters in Compton are forewarned about his affiliation with former Mayors Aja Brown and Eric Perrodin and his likelihood of continuing in their vein. Spicer is a front end for questionable nonprofits, will deal in PR hype versus actual works, and wants to continue the Next Stop Compton plan has little real native input. Spicer is basically an empty suit front man looking for a buyer. A $90,000 contribution by Dr. Dre was spent before campaigning has even started while Spicer travels internationally. He is counting on lying to and duping voters and organizations like his predecessors, Aja Brown and Eric Perrodin, did to get into office. But hopefully, Compton voters have now learned their lesson about entertaining personalities versus proven competency and woke up. The city was led the past two decades by incompetence and corruption left Compton dead last in California according to the state auditor. If you want needed reform to continue in Compton, Spicer and his shenanigans and accompanying troops of busy bodies kept the city divided and in turmoil should be avoided at all cost. Don’t go backwards by choosing Spicer. Go forward by refusing to be duped again
