COMPTON – 125 employees are expected to lose their jobs after Memphis-based International Paper announced the closure of its Compton, California facility on Nov. 14.
“Making the decision to close a facility is incredibly difficult, especially knowing the impact it has on our team members and their families,” said Tom Hamic, executive vice president and president, North American Packaging Solutions, International Paper. “We are sincerely grateful for the contributions of our departing team members, and we are fully committed to supporting them through this transition.”
The Compton facility is located at 19615 S Susana Rd.
This is the second manufacturing company to leave Compton after Plenty Farm, an indoor vertical farming company, announced its closure in December 2024.
“The rising cost of doing business in California, including climbing energy prices, made operating here challenging,” the company said in the post.
International Paper has indicated they are undergoing a “transformational journey to become a stronger sustainable packaging solutions company.”
“A critical step in this journey is to streamline IP’s footprint to focus investments on facilities that will best serve customers and accelerate strategic initiatives to improve quality, reliability and service delivery,” said the company in a statement.
International Paper also announced the closure of locations in Louisville, Kentucky.
The closures will take effect in Jan. 2026.
