LONG BEACH – Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson has addressed the arrest of a pair who are facing murder charges in connection with a man’s fatal shooting death in Belmont Shore early Saturday morning.

Earlier today, the Long Beach Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect and an accomplice connected to yesterday’s fatal shooting on La Verne Avenue in Belmont Shore.

I want to commend Chief Wally Hebeish and our homicide detectives for their swift and professional work. Officers were on scene within minutes, and through diligent investigation, both suspects were identified and arrested within 24 hours. Their actions reflect the best of our department’s commitment to justice and community safety.

This tragic incident has once again drawn attention to the late-night environment in Belmont Shore. Let’s be clear — the growing disorder and unsafe behavior linked to certain late-night establishments is unacceptable and will not be ignored. Belmont Shore is a residential neighborhood first, and our residents deserve peace and safety in their own community.

The City will work closely with the Police Department, City Prosecutor, City Manager, and Councilwoman Kristina Duggan to strengthen enforcement, review operating conditions, and hold establishments accountable when they contribute to unsafe conditions.

This was a senseless act of violence that has shaken our community. While incidents like this are rare, that does not lessen the pain felt by the victim’s loved ones or the concern felt by neighbors throughout Belmont Shore.

Long Beach has made steady progress in improving public safety in recent years. The East Division — which includes Belmont Shore — had recorded no homicides in 2025 before this incident, while homicides citywide were down 40 percent. We remain fully committed to continuing this progress and ensuring every neighborhood is safe and every resident feels secure.

We will continue to act decisively and stand together to keep Long Beach safe, strong, and united.

Officers dispatched to a shooting call at about 1:40 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of La Verne Avenue located a man dead at the scene, said Allison Gallagher, spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department.

“The preliminary investigation indicates a group of subjects got into an altercation, related to an incident that started at a local bar earlier in the evening,” according to a police statement. “During the altercation, which occurred outside in the 100 block of La Verne Avenue, a male adult suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim.”

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

Homicide detectives, through their investigation, identified Jason Loving, 41, of Harbor City, as a suspect in the shooting death, the LBPD reported.

Loving was arrested in Compton and transported to the Long Beach City Jail, where arrested on suspicion of murder, prohibited possessor, and a restraining order violation. His bail was set at $2 million.

Detectives also identified Dasmine Hall, 31, of Compton, as a woman who was allegedly with Loving when the shooting occurred and fled the scene with him. Hall was also arrested in Compton and transported to the Long Beach Jail, where she was arrested on suspicion of murder and accessory to murder. Her bail was also set at $2 million.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting was urged to call the LBPD at 562-570-7244. Callers who wish to remain anonymous may call 1-800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
