Fatima Iqbal-Zubair, educator, mother, and community leader running for State Assembly District 65, announced today the endorsement from CA State Senate Majority Leader Lena Gonzalez.
“As a mother, educator, and immigrant, Fatima Iqbal-Zubair has dedicated her life to uplifting working families and building a more just and sustainable California. From fighting for clean air and water in frontline communities to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with labor to create good union jobs, Fatima has shown what people-powered leadership looks like. I’m proud to support her and look forward to working alongside her to deliver for families, workers, and the environment across our state,” stated Senate Majority Leader Gonzalez.
Senate Majority Leader Gonzalez serves the communities across Southeast Los Angeles and Long Beach. A champion for working families, she has authored landmark legislation to expand broadband access, strengthen workers’ rights, advance clean energy, and create healthy, thriving communities. Rooted in her Long Beach community and the proud daughter of a union truck driver and an immigrant mother, Senator Gonzalez brings a deep commitment to equity, opportunity, and environmental justice to her work every day.
“I’m deeply honored to have Senator Lena Gonzalez’s support. Senator Gonzalez has been a fearless leader for working families, environmental justice, and reproductive freedom – values that guide my own fight for a more just and equitable California. Together, we’ll continue pushing for clean air and water for every community, strong protections for workers, and a future where every family has the resources they need to thrive,” stated Iqbal-Zubair.
The 65th State Assembly District is represented by Assemblymember Mike Gipson, who is serving his final term. It includes the communities of Carson, Compton, North Long Beach, San Pedro, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, Watts, Wilmington, and Willowbrook.
