The family of Brendon Glenn have responded to today’s arrest of former Los Angeles Poloce Department officer Clifford Proctor’s arrest for his 2015 shootings death.
Glenn’s family vehemently rebukes his characterization as being homeless.
Sheri Camprone and Brittany Glenn shared the following statement, through the family’s attorney V. James DeSimone,
“Although 10 years have gone by, it feels like yesterday when the tragedy took place. Achieving justice for this terrible moment in time finally feels like a tangible thing, versus something we as a family have always hoped for.
“It feels like the ‘pause’ button has finally been released and the rest of this criminal process will play out for all to see.”
DeSimone adds: “While there is some relief from Brendon’s family that officer Proctor has been arrested, this is a long time coming and they want ultimate justice through a criminal conviction.
The family also asks the press to please stop describing Brendon Glenn as a homeless man.
“He had a home to come to with his family. Brendon was a kind, loving son, brother, and father, and there was so much more to him than that unfortunate descriptor.”
Brendon, 29, was unarmed and died after being shot twice in the back by Proctor on May 5, 2015. Proctor was responding to reports of a disturbance involving Glenn outside a bar in Venice, California. The officers approached after observing a bouncer take Glenn to the ground.
The deadly shooting was later ruled to be unjustified and in violation of LAPD’s use of force policy. Former LAPD Chief Charlie Beck called for Proctor to be charged with manslaughter. Proctor left the department in 2017.
Former LA District Attorney Jackie Lacey in 2018 decided against filing criminal charges, but her replacement, Dist. Atty. George Gascón hired a special prosecutor to reopen the investigation into Brendon’s killing. That resulted in a warrant being issued for his arrest on Oct. 17, 2024.
