SAN MARINO – A 63-year-old man suspected of killing his 56-year-old wife in an alleged arson fire at their San Marino home was taken into custody Thursday.
Homicide detectives arrested Yoon Lai on Thursday at his residence in the 2600 block of Lorain Road, near Del Mar Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Firefighters responded to the house on Jan. 6 following reports of a residential fire.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were contacted and interviewed Lai when he arrived at the home with his twin 16-year-old sons.
“He’d taken his sons to baseball practice this morning, and when he returned to the location, from dropping them off at practice, he noticed the residence was on fire,” sheriff’s Lt. Steven de Jong told NBC 4 on Jan. 6.
The sheriff’s department is expected to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, as Lai remains in custody without bail.
It was unclear what motivated the alleged arson fire, as authorities continued an ongoing investigation into the case Thursday evening.
Anyone with additional information was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
