INGLEWOOD – The city of Inglewood will continue to award outside law enforcement contracts to protect billionaire interests at the Sports and Entertainment District despite Hollywood Park and Kia Forum operators not fully reimbursing the City for such services.
Inglewood taxpayers continue to subsidize law enforcement activities at the Kia Forum, SoFi Stadium, Intuit Dome and YouTube theatre.
With recent raises provided to members of the Inglewood Police Department and outside contracts with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol and Hawthorne Police Department, Inglewood residents continue to expend close to half the city’s budget on police.
Budget figures presented during the midyear budget presentation on June 3 indicate sales tax revenue was done and will more than likely take another hit due to the immigration raids preventing Inglewood businesses from opening.
A review of invoices submitted from IPD to Hollywood Park Management Company and the Kia Forum, the City does NOT receive 100% reimbursement for law enforcement activities.
Despite the millions spent on law enforcement, IPD reports that crime is significantly up in the Inglewood Sports and Entertainment District.
On June 30, Samantha Lira, 19, was killed by a hit-and-run driver near the Intuit Dome and SoFi Stadium after leaving a concert and our highly paid police department provided no vehicle description to the public despite the installation of surveillance cameras around the perimeter of the sports and entertainment venues.
The council is expected to approve the contract during the July 8 city council meeting with no discussion.
