CULVER CITY – A pedestrian who was fatally struck by a car on the transition road from the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway to the westbound Marina (90) Freeway in Culver City was publicly identified Sunday.
Santos Martinez, 41, died from blunt traumatic injuries, according to the Medical Examiner’s office. His city of residence was not disclosed.
The California Highway Patrol was notified at 4:25 a.m. Friday that a pedestrian had been struck by an Infiniti sedan.
Martinez was pronounced dead by Culver City Fire Department personnel at 4:42 a.m., a CHP officer said.
It was the second fatality on the short stretch of freeway near Marina del Rey within a week.
Chandler Jones, 33, a former NFL and Canadian Football League player who starred at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, was struck by a vehicle and killed near the western end of the 90 freeway around 2 a.m. last Sunday. He is not to be confused with his NFL contemporary also named Chandler Jones, the four-time Super Bowl champion and two-time All-Pro, who is 35.
