SAN PEDRO – The Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro was shut down in both directions Friday after a person climbed the suspension cables and jumped, snarling traffic in the area.
The incident was reported at 10:33 a.m. on the bridge over Los Angeles Harbor, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart.
An L.A. Port Police boat recovered the person from the water, and they were pronounced dead at the scene, Stewart said.
The person’s age and gender were not immediately released.
The bridge closure caused major delays in and around the San Pedro and Terminal Island areas Friday morning.
