HARBOR GATEWAY – A 57-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Harbor Gateway, east of Gardena and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision early morning collision.
The collision was reported at 2:40 a.m. Thursday and officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Division responded to the intersection of South Figueroa and West 146th streets, east of the Harbor (101) Freeway, where they learned the driver was heading south on South Figueroa when they collided with the pedestrian, according to an LAPD spokesman.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel.
There was no description of the vehicle or the driver, who police said drove away from the scene without stopping to help the victim.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
Police said a reward of up to $50,000 is available to members of the public who provide information leading to the identification, apprehension, or conviction in a fatal hit-and-run.
