COMPTON – The family of a 12-year-old boy shot to death Friday has established a GoFundMe fundraiser to assist them during this difficult time.
“Good morning. Today I want to talk to you about a wonderful boy, only 12 years old, who unfortunately, on May 9th, a stray bullet took his life. He was a boy with many dreams. He liked sports, he played soccer. I think it was his life after his family. He was a big fan of the Boston Celtics. He also liked and was excited about American football. Many dreams of our Rodri. We would like to ask for any donations you would like and can give, we thank you in advance. Thank you from Betty (Mom) and Arturo (Dad),” reads the fundraiser.
Deputies from the Compton Sheriff’s Station responded to the 2100 block of Oris Street and South Aranabe Avenue regarding an assault with a deadly weapon/gunshot victim at the park at 3:55 p.m. Friday, according to the sheriff’s department.
They found the boy in the park and began first aid measures. Paramedics from the Compton Fire Department arrived and took him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses described the suspect in the shooting as a man wearing all black clothing- including a black ski mask – who was last seen running northbound on Oleander Avenue and out of view, deputies said.
Sheriff’s investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting.
