LOS ANGELES – A suspect was shot after officers responded to a domestic violence call Saturday at a home in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
The dispatch came at about 9 a.m. Saturday, when a caller reported that a suspect was armed with a gun and possibly suicidal in the 900 block of East 118th Drive, just west of Central Avenue and south of the Century (105) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
“As officers arrived to the call, they encountered the armed suspect and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” according to a police statement. “(The) suspect, described as a male adult, was struck by gunfire and taken into custody.”
Paramedics rushed him to a hospital with what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries. His weapon was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence, police added.
Police said the area of 118th Drive, from Wadsworth Avenue to Bellhaven Street, would be impacted for several hours.
“No outstanding suspects or threats to the community,” police said in a social media post at 12:07 p.m.
