LONG BEACH – Police are investigating a shooting that left a teenage boy wounded after a physical altercation near the Hellman Street neighborhood in Long Beach.
Long Beach Police Department officers responded at 8:33 p.m. Tuesday to the area near Seventh Street and Cherry Avenue regarding a shots fired call.
When they arrived, the officers learned the teen and a group of suspects were involved in an altercation, and at some point one of the suspects drew a gun and shot the victim, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body.
The suspects ran away from the scene before the officers’ arrival, the police department said.
The shooting is under investigation.
