LONG BEACH – Two boys, ages 12 and 13, have been arrested in connection with multiple incidents of vandalism and burglary at Long Beach businesses.
The incidents occurring between April 6 and 26 at six businesses involved broken glass doors or windows, along with theft of merchandise at a pair of the businesses and the theft an Electronic Benefits Transfer machine at another, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police suspected about six juveniles were involved in the crimes, according to the LBPD.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage, canvassed the scene for additional evidence and spoke with business owners, leading to Monday’s search warrants and arrests of the two boys, police said.
The 13-year-old boy was arrested at his Long Beach residence and booked into the Long Beach City Jail for suspicion of commercial burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and felony vandalism, police said.
The 12-year-old boy wasn’t home when police served their warrant, but turned himself in at police headquarters, where he was booked for suspicion of commercial burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle, police said.
Both boys were released to their parents, police said.
The two cases will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges, police said.
The investigation continued as detectives work to identify the remaining suspects.
