LANCASTER – Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a hit-and-run collision in Lancaster that killed a pedestrian, sheriff’s officials said Tuesday.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lancaster Station responded 11:40 p.m. Monday to the intersection of Avenue J and Hanstead Avenue regarding the fatal collision.
The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking northbound across Avenue J outside of a crosswalk when a sedan traveling westbound on Avenue J struck him and fled the scene, said sheriff’s Detective Ryan Ament.
Immediately following the crash, a Toyota Camry traveling westbound on Avenue J struck the pedestrian, who was in the roadway. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, Ament said.
The driver of the Toyota Camry remained at the scene.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation and it is unknown if speed, alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, sheriff’s officials said. Anyone with information regarding this collision was asked to contact traffic investigators at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station at 661-948-8466.
